We shot this video in Ulrich Wild’s home studio in Silverlake, CA. Ulrich has worked with some great artists including Rob Zombie, Deftones, Slipknot and Dethklok. The room is pretty unique and I love the floor to ceiling murals he had in there. Gibson Pro Audio wanted to capture the story of how he got started in the music industry and educate young recording engineers.
Scott Weiland was a huge musical influence on me. He had a great sense of melody, weaving vocals into musical arrangements in a beautiful, sometimes unexpected way.
I was privileged to film this interview at his recording studio. His stage presence was larger than life, but on this day he struck me as friendly but a little shy. He was happy to be spending time with his kids and taking a break from touring.
I was still editing when I heard of his passing, and it shocked me. I mourn for his family and am grateful that his wife gave us her blessing to post the interviews. I watched other interviews with Scott to prepare for this one, and it’s rare to hear him talk so frankly about the early days and his thoughts about music. His former bandmates summed it up best when they posted this version of “Atlanta”.
Special thanks to Evan MacKenzie for interviewing Scott and to JP Robelot for recording sound.

Florian Ammon has worked with Rammstein, U2, Van Halen and Mariah Carey among many others. It was a hot day in Studio City, CA back in July of last year when we filmed this, the first of several interviews for Gibson Pro Audio. Florian’s studio was small on the inside and dark, though there was some great light coming in from the pool area outside the glass doors to main camera left. This a great situation for the use of DSLR cameras since the cameras are small and sensitive to low light levels.
Dave Jerden was such a great interview subject and his studio in Downtown LA had a great dark vibe to it. I really like his ideas in this video about mastering the basics and then adding complexity from there.
Here’s the first segment of the Stuart Brawley interview we filmed at his new home studio, The BackYard Recording Studios. Stuart has worked with some of the biggest names in pop music such as Michael Jackson, NSYNC, Don Henley and Celine Dion. He had a lot of great things to say about how important work ethic and attitude is when it comes to working with high profile artists.
This is the first video in a series that we filmed for KRK speakers. It’s the first time I’ve ever been inside the Capitol Records building and you can feel the history the minute you walk through the door. Even though Don is pretty much a legend at this point, he was very friendly and accommodating and I love how his personality comes out in this interview.
Kudos to Evan at KRK, who interviewed Don while I was running the cameras.
