Civil Twilight
I've been taking walks lately at civil twilight. That's the thirty minutes or so right after the sun sets, where it's still light outside but dark enough that the lights of the neighborhood have come on and a bluish haze washes over everything. I find it to be one of the most peaceful times of the day, often quiet as people nestle into their homes for the evening. In walking, I find that it eases me into the end of the day. I reconnect with nature and the world around me. Even the birds seem to be settling in for the night ahead. We're now in the middle of summer and it's often cool and comfortable after the day's heat has dissipated. I'm grateful for this simple opportunity to mark the end of the day with mindfulness.
